I've used both quite extensively. I had throughput issues with Shibby (tomato) over wireless, I don't know why and I spent like 10 hours trying to debug it. Couldn't figure it out. I have an asus RT-N66U. The major difference is the ease of creating vlans with tomato in my opinion. You can do it all from the GUI and assign everything there.
